(October 14, 2020) The Tower of London (During Covid-19)

The Tower of London is one of England’s greatest attractions. For nearly 1000 years, this place was built on by many kings and leaves the fortress to what it is today. The tower became many things. It was a place of worship, a prison, an execution ground, and now a tourist attraction.

Because of this pandemic, the tower is now under a different set of rules once again. It is still open. However, you need to book your ticket online ahead of time. In addition, you need to wear a mask, keep socially distant (2 meters), and operate in a 1 way system of traffic.

Because the tower is not designed for a plague, some attractions are closed at the tower.

What was OPEN:

  • The Crown Jewels

  • The White Tower

  • The Bloody Tower

  • Everywhere outside

While that list doesn’t seem like a lot, we spent a good hour and a half at the tower. As you see in the last two pictures, there are some interesting animals that live there.

Of course, there are the famous ravens. The Tower of London has a legend that basically means if there are no ravens in the Tower of London, the tower will fall and so will the nation.

Each raven has their wings clipped (cut off the tips of their feathers). The birds are rather happy at the tower. They get fed a good meal and love to look and learn about people’s habits. As you can see in the picture to the right, this raven thought we were going to throw trash away and was patiently waiting to snatch it up.

I also recommend asking about the squirrel. This cheeky girl gets fed by the beefeaters and has become so used to it that she will climb up your leg to grab a nut or two to eat. (Do be careful and don’t trick her. She has been known to bite.)
