(October 13, 2020) The Haggis Takes Flight!

Adventure awaits! Stephanie and Jennifer Haggis flew over the pond in hopes of finding the Scottish mythical creature, the haggis.

As you can imagine, a flight from the great U S of A to London, England was a rather grueling and intensive task. To keep ourselves and others healthy, we has to wear masks for the whole 18 hours. I, Stephanie, can tell you it is not the least bit comfortable wearing a mask on a plane, especially when you have to sleep in it too. But, we got to our little flat in one piece.

Our flat is above a small grocery store that we wish we could go to to get some food at. Because of England’s Covid19 rules, we are to self isolate for 14 days. So any and all contact with the outside world is forbidden. We have been ordering groceries online and ordering from UberEats during those special occasions that make us splurge a little.

By special occasions I mean meal time.

Ah yes, the quarantine life. Our days so far have been nothing but looking forward to the next meal. So far, we have had 2 great experiences with restaurant take-out and one horrible one.

Our first restaurant was Mikawa Japan. They are vary much an authentic ramen and sushi shop. Jen and I liked it so much, we had it twice! I would show you pictures, but we ate our meals too fast. Overall, 5 stars.

Unfortunately, our second restaurant, YouMeSushi, was the worst “Japanese” food Jen and I ever had in our lives. We both ordered tonkotsu curry (fried pork curry over rice) and it was the most bland, worst tasting, insult to Japanese cuisine I have ever laid my taste buds on. If you want my hot take on things, putting spinach as the only thing in a curry sauce is not right.

Our latest adventure was from a lovely German kebab place called Donor Kebab.

Now, when I first looked at the menu I was confused. This place sold sandwiches. It’s true that kebabs are on a skewer. But, doner kebabs are more akin to Greek gyros. The thin, handmade bread is stuffed with meat and lots of lettuce, red cabbage, and yummy sauce. If you like your meat, I would definitely recommend eating a doner kebab sometime. There is even a spicy sauce that can be added for you more adventurous types.

As you can see, life in quarantine is sluggish. The plain walls of the flat doesn’t give us much life either. However, when speaking over the telephone, we get a bit of a jolt when we hear a British accent on the other end. Like hmmm, yes we are in a different country. I forgot!

We are allowed to go outside soon! So come back to see more photos and adventures from the Haggis sisters!
